It’s official: The Miami Hurricanes are in the top 20 of both the Coaches Poll and AP Poll heading into the season. The Canes were ranked 19th in the previously released coaches poll and have the same ranking in the AP poll that came out today.

There were two other ACC teams ranked ahead of the Canes in both polls: Florida State at No. 10 and Clemson at No. 14 in both polls.

Also breaking into the top 25 from the conference was NC State at No. 22 in the Coaches Poll and No. 24 in the AP Poll. In a reflection of Miami’s relatively easy schedule, the team only faces one team in the top 25, and that’s FSU at home Oct. 26. Clemson and NC State are not on this year’s schedule.

The next highest rated team Miami will face is Louisville, which was essentially No. 26 in the AP Poll and No. 27 in the Coaches Poll when you consider the “others receiving votes” category. That game is on the road for the Canes Oct. 19.

One down the list in both polls is Virginia Tech at No. 27/28, with that game set for Sept. 27 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Florida Gators  made an appearance in the Coaches Poll with 11 votes at No. 38 but is nowhere to be found on the AP Poll. Another Miami opponent, Syracuse, got a single vote in the Coaches Poll but none in the AP Poll (the Canes play at the Orange in the regular season finale Nov. 30).

So, on paper based on the polling, only one team is ahead of the Canes that’s on the schedule.

Also of note: Both polls were in agreement with Georgia atop the list, Ohio State second and Mario Cristobal’s former team, Oregon, No. 3.
