Michigan State has worked hard to re-establish its in-state recruiting presence since Jonathan Smith took over the program. Prominent Detroit area high school coach Jermaine Gonzales has been impressed with the outreach effort of the Spartans, who currently have two commitment from his Orchard Lake St. Mary's program in 2025. “They have done a great job, those guys have made an instant impact,” Gonzales said. “The new staff is dynamic. They are sociable. They come into your school and engage you. And they know their stuff. I’ve been watching what they were able to do at their last school, so I know that Coach Smith is going to put together something special.”
