Michigan football kicks off its fall training camp on July 31, marking the beginning of a new era under head coach Sherrone Moore. Moore, taking the reins from Jim Harbaugh, faces high expectations as he leads the Wolverines following their undefeated 15-0 season and College Football Playoff National Championship victory in 2023.

The biggest storylines of the camp center around the intense quarterback battle. Junior Alex Orji, graduate Jack Tuttle, and senior Davis Warren are all vying for the starting position, each bringing unique skills and experience to the competition.

Orji, known for his dual-threat capabilities, looks to show he can play the position full-time with an intriguing bid ahead. Tuttle, a seasoned veteran heading into his seventh season in college., provides a steady and experienced option. Meanwhile, Warren, entering his fourth season, aims to capitalize on his knowledge of the team’s system and leadership qualities. Moore’s decision on the starting quarterback will significantly impact the team’s offensive strategy and overall dynamic, especially with ready-made players to compete for a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff, new for 2024.

As the Wolverines prepare to defend their championship title, the team is focused on maintaining the high standards set last season. With a blend of returning talent and new leadership, Michigan’s fall camp is poised to be a critical period for setting the tone for another successful campaign.

Michigan will get its work underway this week ahead of its Aug. 31 opener against Fresno State, set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff from the Big House on NBC.

Michigan quote of the day

“We won a national title and go back in the offense and Kirk is in there yelling at the screen because somebody’s route wasn’t right. ‘Dude, go home, we just won the natty, bro.’ That’s the type of guy he is.

“For me, it’s less and less difficult to delegate things when you have people like that around you, having [defensive coordinator] Wink [Martindale] and having [special teams coordinator] J.B. Brown,. Those guys are unbelievable. Tough, hard workers, and their number one goal is the team.”
