Following a strong year battling back from Tommy John surgery, Mississippi State RHP Brooks Auger earned a selection in the MLB Draft on day two.

Auger was selected in the sixth round, 190th overall to the Los Angeles Dodgers. It comes on the back of what was a really good season of work for the Diamond Dawgs for the Louisiana native.

After going down in 2023 with the torn UCL in his elbow, Auger played a multitude of roles for State this season. New pitching coach Justin Parker utilized him as a closer earlier in the season, had him pitching middle and long relief and then he became a starter by the end of the year.

Auger was 1-2 on the season but pitched in 20 games with five starts and had a 3.35 ERA with two saves. Auger threw a career-high 45.2 innings and gave up 37 hits, 17 runs and 17 walks while striking out 50 batters and holding opponents to a .215 batting average.

The biggest moment of Auger’s career came against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament when he threw one of the great starts in Bulldog baseball  history. Auger threw 8.0 innings, allowed just one run on three hits, walked no one and struck out 13 batters. More impressive was the fact that he threw only 12 called balls all game long and had more strikeouts than balls.

From smalltown Famerville, La., Auger played his junior college baseball at Hinds Community College before coming to Starkville in 2023. As a sophomore, Auger threw in 16 games with a 3.05 ERA. He had 20.2 innings pitched with 12 walks and 27 strikeouts.

Auger is MSU’s fourth pitcher taken in the draft to this point joining first round pick Jurrangelo Cijntje, second rounder Khal Stephen and third rounder Nate Dohm. MSU has also had OF Dakota Jordan drafted along with signees Dante Nori and Conrad Cason.
