NC State football wide receiver Julian Gray plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced on social media Sunday afternoon. The redshirt junior pass catcher was a starter for the Wolfpack last season and one of the top return specialists in the country.

Gray played four seasons with NC State, emerging as a playmaking wide receiver with elite speed. He started games on the outside and in the slot. The Wolfpack overhauled its wide receiver room after the 2023 season, bringing in 2 transfers and 4 freshmen.

He announced the news on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, thanking NC State’s fanbase, head coach Dave Doeren and others.

“WPN, thank you for welcoming me into the Wolfpack family,” Gray wrote. “Thank you to Coach Doeren and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me an opportunity to live out my dream. With that being said I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility remaining.”

The dynamic wide receiver caught 16 passes for 170 yards as a redshirt sophomore, both career highs, and found the end zone on offense once. He also scored a kickoff return touchdown and averaged 26 yards per run back. Gray missed the final 2 games of the regular season due to injury.

That number ranked No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in the ACC. His career kick return average ranks No. 5 in NC State history.

In his Wolfpack career, he played in 28 games, racking up 30 receptions for 293 yards. Gray also recorded 822 kick return yards.

The receiver is a former four-star recruit out of Charlotte (N.C.) Hopewell High. He picked NC State over Virginia Tech, Duke, Georgia Tech and others. On3 considered Gray the No. 197 recruit in the 2021 class and the No. 13 prospect in North Carolina.
