Nebraska volleyball drops to No. 2 in AVCA coaches poll
Despite not dropping a set in week one, Husker volleyball went down one ranking to No. 2 in the latest AVCA coaches poll.
Nebraska swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tulsa and Pepperdine to win the Ameritas Players Challenge at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. They hit .261 against their three opponents and held them to .010.
The Huskers debuted as the No. 1 Preseason pick with Texas behind them at No. 2. The Longhorns had a much tougher schedule in week one and were bumped up to the top ranking after two impressive outings.

Texas played No. 7 Ohio State twice and beat them on Friday and Saturday night, only losing one set to the Buckeyes. The Longhorns hit .319 and held Ohio State to under .200. Outside hitter Logan Eggleston averaged 4.71 kills per set and Kentucky transfer Madisen Skinner averaged 3.71 in their seven sets.
In other news, Wisconsin dropped from No. 3 to sixth in the polls after falling to Baylor in a five-set battle in Fort Worth, Texas. The Bears went from No. 16 in the preseason poll to No. 9 after taking down the reigning National Champions 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 21-25 and 15-12.
Three takes from Nebraska’s victory over Pepperdine in their first test of the season
No. 4 Minnesota beat Baylor 3-1 in the same tournament and take on Texas on Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. in Austin, Texas. The match will be on the Longhorn Network.

Seven Big Ten teams made the AVCA coaches poll including Nebraska (2), Minnesota (4), Wisconsin (6), Ohio State (8), Purdue (11), Illinois (19) and Penn State (21).
This week for Nebraska:
Nebraska is hosting Loyola Marymount and Ole Miss in the Husker Invitational. The Huskers take on LMU on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and Ole Miss on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. Ole Miss and LMU play each other on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6:00 p.m.

The Huskers game vs. LMU will be on Nebraska Public Media and B1G+. Saturday’s Ole Miss match will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Both games can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.
Ole Miss’s head coach, Kayla Banwarth, is a former Nebraska libero and assistant coach. In 2021, Banwarth led the Rebels to their first NCAA tournament berth in 11 years and their highest winning percentage (.700) in program history.
