Nebraska volleyball's 2023 Big Ten schedule features a chance for a big regular-season finale
The Big Ten released the 2023 volleyball schedules on Wednesday. Nebraska volleyball’s conference schedule features several challenging groups of games, including closing out the season on the road at Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The Huskers have their work cut out for them during a stretch of four-away games and a run of four teams that will likely be ranked.
After a tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska hosts “Volleyball Day in Nebraska” at Memorial Stadium. They take on Omaha at 7 p.m. after Wayne State and Nebraska-Kearney play at 4:30 p.m. Nebraska is aiming to set the single-game attendance record for a women’s sporting event.

Husker’s non-conference schedule leads to tough Big Ten battles
The Huskers play several good teams in their non-conference schedule. These games include Creighton, Stanford and Kentucky. Nebraska travels to Stanford for a Tuesday, Sept. 12 match and then hosts Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 17.
Both Stanford and Kentucky are powerhouse volleyball programs. Nebraska fell in Stanford at home in four sets in 2022 then swept the Wildcats on the road.
Stanford has defeated Nebraska in the team’s last five matchups. The Huskers must be eager to get another shot at the Cardinal.
Nebraska doesn’t have a break after the Stanford and Kentucky games. They host Ohio State (Sept. 22) and Minnesota (Sept. 24) in an immediate test against Big Ten opponents.
Minnesota took down the Huskers in the last game of the 2022 Big Ten season. Ohio State has beaten NU in three out of their last four matches.
Both the Buckeyes and Gophers will look very different in 2023. Minnesota has a new head coach and OSU had all five of their seniors transfer elsewhere for their fifth year of college.
Nebraska will have to come out swinging in the Big Ten.

On the road again
Nebraska had a very long streak of away games last season. After the opening Big Ten weekend, the Huskers travel to Purdue for another test. The Boilermakers didn’t win a set against the NU in 2022 but they always put up a good fight. They are not a team to overlook.

After Purdue on Sept. 29, Nebraska heads to Indiana for a match the next day. During the next weekend, NU will be on the road at Michigan State (Oct. 6) and then travel to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan (Oct. 7).
MSU will follow the Huskers back to Lincoln for an Oct. 13 matchup. Penn State comes to Lincoln the next day for one of the best Big Ten history battles. After a mid-week away game at Northwestern, Wisconsin and Nebraska meet for the first time on Oct. 21.
Playing on the road, especially with back-to-back games, can be difficult with limited time to rest and learn from the previous match. Nebraska’s 2023 squad will need to master these road game situations because there are two huge matches on the road to end the regular season.

The Wisconsin-Minnesota one-two punch
The Huskers’ 2022 schedule featured Wisconsin and Minnesota in Lincoln on Thanksgiving weekend. However, this season Nebraska is on the road to take on Wisconsin and Minnesota in back-to-back days.
The Big Ten doesn’t have a conference volleyball tournament to decide the winner. Instead, they try their best to schedule the conference’s top contenders to play each other at the end of the season. The excitement is great for the conference and it lets the teams go out and get the championship.
Ohio State and Penn State will battle on Nov. 24 to make for an eventful Thanksgiving weekend.
Nebraska Head Coach John Cook loves that his team is able to set themselves up for a huge final regular season weekend. Big matches against Wisconsin and Minnesota also help the NCAA Committee select seeds.
Naturally, Nebraska added the NCAA tournament dates at the end of their schedule.
With no seniors on this squad and lots of young talent, this schedule has set up the Huskers for a fun and very entertaining season.
