Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is 2023 standout receiver Carnell Tate.

Few schools in the country have the prestige of Ohio State on the recruiting trail. That prestige takes on an even greater value when the discussion centers around the wide receiver position.

Receivers coach Brian Hartline has turned the Buckeyes wideout room into one of the country’s premier position group. Kids from all over America are working hard to get their chance to join it. That’s especially true for 2023 standout receiver Carnell Tate. The Chicago native — now at the IMG Academy in Florida — grew up dreaming of an offer from Ohio State. He told Lettermen Row why the Buckeyes offer meant so much to him when he received it last month.

“It feels amazing,” Tate said. “It’s just their tradition. I have family in Ohio, and we love them. I’ve always grown up watching them since Mike Thomas. They always put on a show. I honestly was at a loss for words when they offered.”

That affinity for Ohio State hasn’t waned. Carnell Tate is the No. 5-ranked receiver in the Class of 2023 and a prospect with more than 25 offers already and he’s growing closer and close to Ohio State. His Buckeyes interest isn’t framed simply by the recent offer from Brian Hartline. It’s rooted in years of watching Ohio State and family ties to the city of Columbus.

How does he intend to handle his upcoming visit to Ohio State? What kind of pressure does his family play in his eventual commitment? Has he found it difficult to not commit right away after receiving his ‘dream offer’ from the Buckeyes?

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Carnell Tate joined Birminology on Lettermen Row to talk about that stuff and more. Check out the video below.
