Rapid Reaction Buckeyes Thoroughly Dominate Western Michigan In Every Phase Ohio State Football

COLUMBUS — Ohio State scored on its fist three possessions and never truly struggled to move the ball on Western Michigan. As good as the offense was, the Buckeyes defense was suffocating enough to become the story of the night in the 56-0 splattering of the Broncos; the defense gave up just 99 yards of total offense in the win.

On Sunday, the Buckeyes program released its players of the game from the easy win over Western Michigan.

The offensive player of the game was running back Quinshon Judkins, who ran for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns — and had an additional 80-yard touchdown run wiped away due to a questionable holding call. He was special on Saturday night, earning the offensive player of the game honors.

Defensively, interior lineman Ty Hamilton was named the defensive player of the game for his performance. He racked up four tackles and 0.5 sacks for the Buckeyes and routinely dominated the offensive linemen lined up across from him.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. was named the special teams player of the game for his two special teams tackles, one on punt coverage and once on kickoff.

All three are being honored for their efforts in a dominant shutout win over Western Michigan with an idle week on deck.

Buckeyes fall in AP Poll despite blowout win

Ohio State did everything it could have done to prove it is one of the top teams in college football after two weeks — because it is.

The problem for the Buckeyes is that one of the teams that were ranked directly behind them in the AP Poll last week went on the road and destroyed a top-10 team.

As a result of Texas’ 31-12 win over Michigan in the Big House and Ohio State opening the season with a pair of wins over MAC programs, the Longhorns skipped over the Buckeyes to become the No. 2 team in the country. Ohio State is now No. 3 after its own emphatic win, a 56-0 decimation of Western Michigan.

Ohio State received five first-place votes. Georgia is No. 1 still, earning 54 first-place votes. Texas was No. 1 on four ballots this week. Alabama and Ole Miss round out the top five.

The AP Top 10 can be found below.

AP Poll (Sept. 8)

1. Georgia (54)
2. Texas (4)
3. Ohio State (5)
4. Alabama
5. Ole Miss
6. Missouri
7. Tennessee
8. Penn State
9. Oregon
10. Miami (FL)

On3’s Andy Staples lists Ohio State as top CFP seed

After two weeks of college football, Ohio State is clearly one of the best teams in the country. On3’s Andy Staples even believes the Buckeyes will make the College Football Playoff — and do it as the top seed.

Staples has the Buckeyes as the No. 1 seed in the CFP after two weeks, ahead of projected SEC champion Georgia, projected ACC champion Miami and projected Big 12 champion Utah.

He has Ohio State earning the first-round bye and facing the winner of the matchup between No. 9 USC and No. 8 Alabama at the Rose Bowl.

Other Big Ten teams in Staples’ 12-team field after two weeks are No. 9 seed USC and No. 10 seed Penn State.
