Buckeyes back from off week, gearing up for upset-minded Maryland

COLUMBUS — This is not the same Maryland team that Ohio State has decimated in each of their last two matchups in Columbus.

The Buckeyes have averaged nearly 70 points per game in those two matchups, and they clearly outmatched the Terrapins in every phase of those two games.

But this Maryland team is 5-0, playing quality defense and lighting up the scoreboard on offense. And the same team that nearly upset the Buckeyes in College Park a season ago is coming to Ohio Stadium with finishing off an upset on its mind.

“I mean, guys better recognize it because that’s exactly what happened,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “It went all the way down to the last play. And they know how good this team is and how many weapons they have. If we’re not executing very well, then it’s going to go all the way down to the fourth quarter.

“So yeah, this team definitely has our team’s attention.”

Ohio State had a week off after beating Notre Dame in the final seconds, giving itself time to refocus and retool everything in preparation for a tough Maryland matchup.

After a week without Buckeyes football, Ohio State is back in action and ready for the final eight games of the regular season. Lettermen Row has all of the viewing and listening details so you don’t miss a second of the action between the Buckeyes and Terrapins.

Ohio State vs. Maryland: Game time, details

Maryland is 5-0 on the season and is averaging 38.6 points per game. The Terrapins are led by veteran quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, who has etched himself near the top of the Maryland record book in nearly every passing category. He and the Maryland offense have fueled the program’s best start to a season since it went 10-2 and won the ACC in 2001. The Buckeyes are 8-0 all-time against the Terrapins, but this could be the best Maryland team they have ever faced. It will provide a good challenge for Ohio State coming out of the idle week.
