Ole Miss took its turn at SEC Media Days on Monday (July 15, 2024), meaning the return of college football is right around the corner. The Rebels have title-chasing expectations in 2024-25.

Will they live up to the hype and make history?

Zach Berry (OMSpirit/On3) and Grayson Weir (Bro Bible) discuss what to expect in this new, welcomed era of a contending Ole Miss football program in an all-new edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner.

“This year’s interesting,” Weir said. “I’m more interested in hearing with the players have to say (at Media Days) than what Lane has to say. Lane’s focused on one game at a time. I asked him last year if there was one game in particular you’re most excited about with the new dynamics — Hugh Freeze, etc. He said, ‘No, I’m looking forward to Week 1.’ He’s all business.”

“But there are questions. How does (Ole Miss) handle pressure? How you handle expectations?”

“These (players), they’re very well media-trained at this point, but they’re going to be interesting coming out of this Media Days. This is Jaxson’s final year, and he’s in the Heisman Trophy conversation. What do you expect? I’m curious to hear what he says to that. Tre (Harris), you’re arguably the best wide receiver in the country. If not the best, Top 5, certainly Top 10.

“I’m curious what the players say. With expectations this year, you can’t talk bigger than you walk. There’s an opportunity where this team can go in and talk the talk. But I think Lane isn’t going to allow them to do that. He comes from the (Nick) Saban team. This team’s going to be humble, for the most part. Every week counts the same. Who cares about Georgia when you’ve got to beat MTSU first? That’s the big takeaway from this week — how the players handle the expectations.”
