Penn State Training Camp Preview

The Penn State football season is upon us! The Nittany Lions start training camp tomorrow and begin the hopeful march toward another postseason berth. With the College Football Playoff and the Big Ten Expanding, it’s an unprecedented time for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his team.

All of that starts with the camp battles and storylines that we’ll track over the next four weeks. Join the BWI Live Show at 10 a.m. to watch the replay embedded in this article. As we do with every football show, we’ll be taking your questions in the BWI Mailbag. Join the show or submit your question on the mailbag submission thread each week before the show!

Fitz’s Recruiting Update

As we do every week, we start with a Penn State football recruiting update from the past weekend. Industry leading insiders Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder worked tirelessly this weekend to get the most accurate news the fastest to Blue White Illustrated subscribers during the Lasch Bash BBQ. On today’s show, Fitz breaks down the fallout of this past weekend including suprirse visits from otherwise committed players, commitments from Kevin Brown and Jahsiear Rogers, and more.

However, the bulk of today’s show surrounds the start of Penn State training camp 2024. The team reassembles in July 31 to begin the final stages of preparation for the 2024 season. We discuss the most prominent camp battles, the team’s X-factor for camp and more. We spend a significant amount of this segment discussing the Penn State passing game and quarterback Drew Allar.

We all know that Allar needs to play better than he did in 2023 for the team to beat elite opponents, but he dial in on a specific trait that he can exhibit in training camp that might give us a hint at his potential for the upcoming season.

Finally, the show’s final segment is dedicated to you, the fans! We cover questions that fans submitted on the Lions Den message board and in the live chat.

One fan of the show wants to talk about Franklin and the consistent criticism of his performance against top teams. Franklin drew criticism from ESPN’s Paul Finebaum for his lack of elite-level success in the past. While hot-take debates aren’t the backbone of the BWI Live Show, we discuss the validity and importance of that sentiment heading into an unprecedented 2024 season. Join the show to find out more!
