Penn State has hired former Indiana head coach Tom Allen to be its next defensive coordinator. Penn State and head coach James Franklin went in a similar path, hiring a defensive mind that likes to be aggressive, similar to what they lost in Manny Diaz when he became the Duke head coach earlier this year. However, all coaches and systems are unique. Today, we’re looking at which players benefit most from the switch to Allen’s defense. To be clear, the hire was made to fit the roster and the talent that Penn State has already assembled. This article is more about the small differences between the two and which players could benefit from those changes. We’ll be focusing primarily on depth or role players.
