Penn State tweets of the day

We start with international wrestling. Penn State alum Zain Retherford is in Istanbul, Turkey to try and qualify himself and the U.S. for the 65-kilogram weight class at the 2024 Summer Olympic games. He must finish in the top three to punch his ticket to Paris, France. His tournament starts when the men’s freestyle division takes the mat at 3 a.m. ET on Saturday. Retherford opens his tournament in a pigtail bout opposite No. 25 seed Stefan Coman of Romania. The winner earns a first-round match with No. 27 Ibrahim Guzman of Yeman. All told, Retherford needs to win a minimum of five championship matches to qualify for the Olympics. Depending on when or if he loses in the championship bracket, a consolation bracket path, known as repechage on the freestyle scene, may also be available to him as a way to finish in the top three.

In other news, Penn State football checks in at No. 9 in Dennis Dodd’s latest early top 25 for CBS Sports.

“Penn State spent freely to lure talented offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to Happy Valley,” Dodd writes. “But can quarterback Drew Allar become more mobile? Kotelnicki is known for his creativity with quarterbacks. Former Indiana coach Tom Allen takes over as defensive coordinator. Oh, and when you weren’t paying attention, James Franklin got another raise.”
