Trey Amos entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday. Since then, Power Five programs from across the country have lined up to show interest in the former Louisiana cornerback. Penn State is the latest to do so.

The Nittany Lions extended an offer to the New Iberia, La., native on Tuesday. They join AlabamaLSUMichiganOklahomaOregonArkansasTexas A&MAuburnIllinoisMichigan StateOle MissMiami, and Florida, among others.

“I want to thank the entire coaching staff and Cajun nation that supported me as soon as I stepped on the field and off the field,” Amos wrote on Twitter when he went into the portal. “To the coaches, I just want to thank you for giving me a chance to show what I can do and good luck in the future, something special is happening.

Amos, who stands 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, had 35 tackles (one for loss) for the Ragin’ Cajuns a year ago in addition to a team-high eight pass breakups. He has multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Penn State puts cornerback in focus

Penn State will be OK entering the 2023 season at cornerback if it does not add one before the 2023 season begins. But, offers to both Amos and former East Central University cornerback Donovan Callis to start the month of May indicates that the Lions would not mind adding a player at the position.

The new offers undoubtedly come in response to losing Storm Duck to Louisville three months after the cornerback arrived in State College via the transfer portal. He went through spring practice but then decided to move to a new school again.

The Lions can and do feel good about Kalen King, Johnny Dixon, Daequan Hardy, and Cam Miller at the top of the rotation for position coach Terry Smith. But, it added Duck to bring another capable talent into the cornerbacks room. And, with his departure, it is now leaving no stone unturned to find a replacement.
