And then there were 17. That’s the number of scholarship players left from the Jeff Brohm era, which ended after the 2022 season.

Such is life in the modern world of college football, transformed forever by the transfer portal and NIL.

The turnover at Purdue has been hastened by Ryan Walters, who has been trying to flip the roster with upgrades. How much change has there been since Walters was hired in December 2022? Of the 84 scholarships currently accounted for in 2024, 67 are taken by Walters’ recruits. That leaves only 17 from the Brohm era.

In two offseasons, Walters has imported 31 scholarship players the last two offseasons from the portal (one left with eligibility after last year, Braxton Myers, three others have used their eligibility). Overall, the current roster has 30 scholarship portal additions, as three remain from the Brohm era (RE Joe Anderson, DL Damarjhe Lewis and NT Cole Brevard).

The Purdue roster also has five JC players signed by Walters. And the roster has 35 high school players signed by Walters (four already have left).

Following is a look at the composition of the 2024 Purdue roster.
