2023 Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff four-star cornerback Malik Muhammad is in Vegas this week playing with South Florida Express at Overtime’s OT7 tournament, where he caught up with On3’s Sam Spiegelman on the latest in his recruitment.

The four-star made a visit to Texas last month and the Longhorns have picked up some momentum with the No.2 cornerback in the On300 since the visit.

“They’ve been recruiting me hard,” Muhammed told Spiegelman. “They just built a great relationship. That’s really it.”

He’s planning to return to Austin next week for an official visit. In addition, he told Spiegelman he will return to Texas A&M the weekend after, June 24th, for an unofficial visit and has locked in an official visit to College Station for July, likely July 29-31, which is the date for the Aggies’ BBQ/pool party.

He told Spiegelman he’ll take the remainder of his official visits in the fall, as he continues to evaluate his top six schools, which includes the aforementioned Longhorns and Aggies, as well as AlabamaFloridaMiami and Michigan.

In regards to the push from Texas A&M recently, Muhammad stated that the staff primarily communicates with his father, but he hears from defensive backs coach TJ Rushing on a consistent basis.

The four-star stated there’s a strong comfort level with the Aggies’ defensive backs coach, who is pushing him to “come home” and commit to Texas A&M.

“It’s at a high level,” he said of his comfort level around Rushing. “I’m real comfortable around him.”

Muhammad previously visited Texas A&M for the Maroon & White Game back in April. The Aggies have held momentum in his recruitment for some time now, but Texas and Alabama most notably have not let up in their pursuit. As it stands, the Aggies have the advantage for the top-ranked cornerback in the state, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, with an 86.6% chance to land his commitment

Muhammad ranks as the No. 50 prospect and No. 5 cornerback in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks even higher in the On300 rankings as the No. 26 prospect and No. 2 cornerback nationally. The four-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of $183K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
