Texas A&M Signing Day

Today, the first Wednesday of February (also the first day overall) marks a special day in the recruiting world. It means it is the traditional National Signing Day for division one football prospects. Because of the development of the December signing period in recent years, the day does not hold as much weight and excitement, but can still be used to celebrate the Texas A&M class.

There will not be anything new for the Aggies in todays signing period, but it provides us with a perfect opportunity to recap the signing class.

ENROLLED AT TEXAS A&M

El Campo (Tex.) High RB Rueben Owens

One of the best running backs in the nation is an Aggie. It was a wild recruitment that saw him commit to Louisville, but Owens found himself where he was always expected to land… in College Station. Owens is expected to compete for immediate playing time in Texas A&M’s offense next year.

Owens ranks as the No. 2 running back and No. 34 overall prospect in the nation in the 2023 class in the On300.

Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep OL Chase Bisontis

Swing tackle who has the athletic ability and raw power to play all five positions along the offensive line. One of the best prospects in the country, regardless of position and someone who has a chance to get some early playing time in his career.

Bisontis is ranked as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country and the No. 35 overall recruit in the On300.

Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff CB Jayvon Thomas

Just outside the consensus top-100, Jayvon Thomas is one of the best defenders in the country. Thomas inking with the Aggies was no guarantee as TCU posed a major threat. But they survived and avoided any late drama.

Thomas is ranked as the No. 14 cornerback and No. 136 over recruit in the 2023 class.

Austin (Tex.) Westlake OL TJ Shanahan

Interior offensive line prospect that is the definition of a road grader at the next level. Shanahan has a clear mean streak and will back down from anyone who lines up across from him. Measures in at just a shade under 6-foot-4, 325 pounds with a 6-foot-7 wingspan.

Ranks as the No. 11 interior offensive lineman and No. 169 overall recruit in the 2023 class.

Tulsa (Tex.) Booker T. Washington ATH Micah Tease

Tease was a name tied to Texas A&M early in his recruitment but wasn’t really talked about much after he committed to Arkansas. Tease was set on being a Razorback but one final visit changed his mind, leading to his decommitment and signing day commitment to the Aggies.

Tease’s talent give the Aggies another playmaker with top shelf talent and abilities. He also gives the Aggies another option in the return game. Tease is ranked as the No. 7 ATH and No. 210 overall recruit in the nation.

Milton (Fla.) WR Raymond Cottrell

The 6-foot-2, 210 pound Cottrell was a monster addition for the Aggies at the end, flipping his commitment from Georgia. Cottrell provides Texas A&M with a weapon who is a candidate for early playing time.

Cottrell is ranked as the No. 229 overall prospect, the No. 33 wide receiver.

Haslet (Tex.) Eaton TE Jaden Platt

A longtime Stanford commitment, Platt decided to go in a different direction with his recruitment, focusing on Florida and Texas A&M. The battle between the two was well fought but the Aggies came out victorious.

Platt is ranked as the No. 13 tight end in the country and the No. 236 overall prospect in the class of 2023.

Katy (Tex.) Paetow LB Daymion Sanford

One of the most underrated linebackers in America will now be donning the Maroon and White. The 6-foot-2, 205 pound four-star prospect held offers from Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and others, but never budged from his summer commitment.

Sanford gives the Aggies a rangy, sideline to sideline playmaker. He is the No. 342 prospect in the 2023 class.

Spring Branch (Tex.) Smithson Valley OL Colton Thomasson

A ginormous offensive tackle prospect from just down the road. Colton Thomasson is a dominant offensive lineman who is looking to step in and help immediately.

Thomasson, a three-star prospect, is ranked as the No. 423 overall prospect in the nation.

Temple (Tex.) High LB Taurean York

York was offered a week before signing day and took a visit, quickly vaulting the Aggies to the front of his recruitment. The former Baylor commit is a tackling machine and with the depth at the position for Texas A&M, York may be in for some early career snaps.

York is ranked as the No. 83 linebacker in the On3 consensus rankings.

SIGNED WITH TEXAS A&M

Katy Paetow (Tex.) DL David Hicks

The top rated commit in the class, David Hicks will be on campus this summer. His recruitment was one that saw many teams try to flip him away, but Jimbo Fisher and his staff were able yo hang onto him till the end.

Hicks is ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation and a top-10 recruit overall.

La Grange (Tex.) High CB Bravion Rogers

Top-100 cornerback Bravion Rogers is one of the premier talents in the nation this year. His recruitment got bumpy at times with other schools pushing for his commitment, but the Aggies were able to survive when it mattered most.

Rogers is ranked as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 97 overall recruit in the 2023 class.

Shiner (Tex.) High S Dalton Brooks

One of the top defensive backs in the nation, Brooks brings size and athleticism to the Aggies secondary. At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Brooks has the ability to cover sideline to sideline in coverage and come down to defend the run. Brooks is also an impressive track and field athlete, posting good times in the 100m, long jump, and triple jump.

Versatile athlete who is one of the more dominant small-town players from the state of Texas in recent years. He is ranked as the No. 9 safety prospect and No. 105 overall in the nation.

Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy QB Marcel Reed

Committed to Ole Miss for quite some time, but found his way into this Aggies 2023 class in the final week. The Aggies have their signal caller of this cycle in the 6-foot-2, 180 pound four-star out of Tennessee.

He chose the Aggies over offers from Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and numerous others. He was ranked as the No. 17 QB and No. 325 overall prospect in the On3 consensus.

Mansfield (Tex.) Lake Ridge EDGE Rylan Kennedy

Kennedy was a later offer and commitment to this class, and at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, Kennedy gives the Aggies a body and skillset they can build upon and develop. Kennedy held offers from Texas, Washington, Auburn, USC, and others.

He is ranked as the No. 56 EDGE in the nation and the No. 625 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

College Station (Tex.) High LB Chantz Johnson

A somewhat surprise in this class, Chantz Johnson was a late addition. His commitment was not all that of a surprise, but timing was. After his late offer, it became expected that Johnson would choose the Aggies but he had not originally planned to sign in December.

At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Johnson is a three-star prospect and the No. 75 linebacker in the 2023 class.

Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast OL Naqiul Bertrand

A massive offensive tackle prospect at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds. Committed to Texas AM in August and never wavered in his decision.

He is the No. 788 overall recruit and No. 51 offensive tackle in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus.

Humble (Tex.) Atascocita DL Samu Taumanupepe

A monster presence in the middle of a defensive line, Taumanupepe projects as a true nose guard for the Aggies. He will be a big time run stopper on the early downs and because of his size at 6-foot-3, 375 pounds, it is not out of the question we see him in certain situations as a freshman.

Taumanupepe is ranked as the No. 83 defensive lineman in the On3 consensus.

Southlake (Tex.) Carroll P Tyler White

Not only a national level recruit as a punter and kicker, but also an all-district selection in baseball as a junior. Accepted invitation to punt in the All-American Bowl on NBC following his senior season. He is the nation’s No. 1 ranked punter.
