Texas A&M four-star defensive back commit Dalton Brooks put on a show on Friday night, helping lead Shiner (Tex.) High, a 2A program, to a 22-21 victory over Poth (Tex.) High, a 3A program.
Playing both sides of the ball for the Comanches, the four-star rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to this incredible run with just ten seconds left on the clock to score the game-winning two-point conversion.
Brooks, who’s helped the Comanches to back-to-back 2A State Championships in his sophomore and junior seasons, broke off a long run late in the second quarter to give Shiner a seven point lead going into halftime.
Brooks broke off a couple big runs on the night, showing off a mean stiff arm and speed.
As talented as he is as a running back, Brooks’ ceiling might be higher as a defensive back. Texas A&M recruited the four-star to play on the defensive side of the ball, looking to utilize his lengthy wingspan, instincts and athleticism at safety. On Friday, the four-star finished with double-digit tackles.

After the game, Brooks, who was wearing Texas A&M gloves and cleats, told Aggie Scoop he’s 100% locked in with Texas A&M and plans to enroll in May after track season. As a junior, he ran an 11.15 100-meter dash and a 22.29 200-meter dash, to go with a 22-10.25 long jump and 45-7 triple jump. Safe to say, the Aggies are getting an elite athlete in Dalton Brooks.
Scouting report for Dalton Brooks
“Versatile athlete who is one of the more dominant small-town players from the state of Texas in recent years. Stars for back-to-back state champion Shiner High as a running back and safety. Rushed for over 2,600 yards and 39 touchdowns at over 10 yards per carry as a junior. Doubles as a strong track athlete, posting good numbers in several events including the 100 meters (11.15 seconds), the long jump (22-10.25 feet) and the triple jump (45-7 feet). Has a leaner athletic build that has room to fill out nicely at the next level. Smooth runner with easy closing speed to ball carriers. Willing to come downhill and strike as well as cover sideline to sideline in the back half. Flashes the long speed and change of direction necessary to play in the secondary at a top tier collegiate program or as a running back. Will need to adjust to the speed of the game coming from a lower classification, but has the physical tools and inherent skills to make an impact, perhaps early on.
Brooks ranks as the No. 74 prospect and No. 7 safety in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The four-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of $179K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
