Greg Katz - Holiday Bowl

The Obvious: The unranked USC Trojans (7-5, 5-4 Pac-12), who have not played a college football game since Nov. 18 when they were embarrassingly dominated 38-20 by UCLA, will try to make amends with a much-needed upset win over the CFP No. 15 Louisville Cardinals (10-3, 7-1 ACC) in the 44th annual DIRECTV San Diego Holiday Bowl (5 p.m. PT/FOX) on Wednesday night at Petco Park.  The Not So Obvious: The Trojans will be looking to salvage the remains of what once was considered a CFP playoff team, and they’ll have to do it without their 2022 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams, who has entered this spring’s NFL draft where he could be the No. 1 overall selection. In truth, the Trojans and Louisville won’t have some of their stars playing on Wednesday due to either the NFL draft or the transfer portal, this is the college football world in which we currently live.
