The Obvious: It’s hard to believe, but it’s been nearly five years since late WeAreSC founder and publisher Garry Paskwietz passed at the young age of 52 years old, but it always seems like just yesterday for those of us who knew our legendary leader. A USC life was taken way too soon, but this cardinal and gold legacy continues to make his presence felt just by the fact that WeAreSC.com is still alive today and surviving quite nicely; thank you very much. The Not So Obvious: The O/NSO honors “GP” on the fifth-year anniversary of his passing by re-posting, with some additions and revisions, our annual appreciation column, which was originally written just days after our late publisher succumbed to a stroke a half-decade ago. To those of us who work or have worked for WeAreSC, Garry is and was irreplaceable, but the current staff has taken his core principles in his absence to remain a leader in USC football and Trojans’ sports coverage. With that in mind, here is a combination column on Garry’s passing to remind us of what we lost and what we have to be grateful for in crossing paths with this one-of-a-kind – with emphasis on kind - human being.
