EA Sports continued its week-long rollout of College Football 25 content ahead of its much-anticipated release next month. On Thursday, the top 25 offenses and defenses were revealed. It likely comes as a surprise to many that the USC Trojans are listed among the Top 25 programs in both offense and defense. It likely comes as an absolute shock that USC’s defensive rating is better than its offensive.

Apparently, USC fans looking to see what a strong defense under head coach Lincoln Riley looks like can get a sneak peek on July 19. D’Anton Lynn’s USC defense owns an 86 overall rating, which is No. 16 among college programs. The Trojans are the No. 7 Big Ten team, one slot below Wisconsin.

There is certainly hope for a defensive revival at USC thanks to major offseason investments in the coaching staff on that side of the ball. Lynn is a rising star and found immediate success last season at UCLA in his first year coaching in college. Defensive line coach Eric Henderson, linebacker Matt Entz and defensive backs coach Doug Belk will all play significant roles in trying to turn around the defensive performances for the Trojans.

The Trojans bring back Bear Alexander at defensive tackle and added a bunch of veteran talent in the defensive backfield.

It’s the offensive side that EA SPORTS isn’t quite as sold on. USC checks in at No. 25 among team offenses with an 83 overall rating.

The Trojans will be breaking in a new starting quarterback with Caleb Williams off to the NFL. USC will also have new starters at running back, all or most of the wide receiver spots and multiple offensive line positions. But it’s tough to doubt a Lincoln Riley offense that can put Zachariah Branch on the field to go along with some other talented skill players.
