Tulsa quarterback Braylon Braxton commits to Marshall
A day after planning out his transfer portal visits, Tulsa quarterback Braylon Braxton has committed to Marshall.
The redshirt sophomore has played in 19 career games, playing in six this past season. Battling an ankle injury, he finished with 212 passing yards and two touchdowns. Despite the tough season on the field, he’s received plenty of interest since entering the portal earlier this week.
A source had told On3 that Braxton had scheduled visits in January to Marshall and North Texas. UTSA had also expressed interest. But the quarterback has made his decision, making a “gut choice,” as a source characterized it to On3. His best season came in 2022 when he completed 92 of 163 passes for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns. A dual-threat in the backfield, he also rushed for 145 yards and five scores. He was earned Freshman All-America honorable mention accolades by College Football News.
Marshall starting quarterback Cam Fancher entered the transfer portal earlier this month, leaving an opening on the roster. Braxton will likely compete with redshirt freshman Cole Pennington for the starting job.
Head coach Charles Huff recently hired Seth Doege as the Thundering Herd’s new offensive coordinator. A former offensive analyst at USC and Ole Miss, he was the starting quarterback at Texas Tech in 2011 and 2012.
