Washington State quarterback Cam Ward passes on portal, plans to enter NFL draft
Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward is passing up his final year of college eligibility, announcing plans to enter the NFL draft.
After a wild month that saw him take official visits to Florida State and Miami, he’s made the decision to enter the NFL. Known for his mobility, he was ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in this year’s transfer portal, according to On3’s Industry Rankings.
A former no-star recruit, Ward thrived the past two seasons on The Palouse, throwing for over 6,300 yards and 43 touchdowns. Viewed as the top quarterback on the market, he picks the NFL over multiple starting quarterback jobs in college football. Miami made an all-out effort. When Ward visited Coral Gables and South Beach, he spent a night with Mario Cristobal and Rick Ross at Prime 112.
Viewed by many coaches as a “baller,” the Incarnate Word star turned Washington State starter is 24−18 in 42 career starts. Where Cam Ward will fall in the NFL draft is a bit of an unknown, with his draft grade anywhere between rounds 2-6.
Ward will not be signing with an agent immediately, a source told On3.
Oregon State quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has emerged as Florida State’s top target, giving the Seminoles their quarterback. Miami is left to restart its search for a starting quarterback.
