Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward will likely not be taking more visits before the transfer portal window closes, according to Chris Hummer on X.

The star Cougars transfer is the No. 1-rated quarterback available in the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s rankings on portal QBs. He most recently took visits to Miami and Florida State, but that doesn’t mean his recruitment is completely shut down.

College football insider Bruce Feldman added Ohio State to the mix, who just lost 2023’s QB1 in Kyle McCord to the portal — but at this point that is merely speculation on Feldman’s part and no official visit will be taken before the dead period unless something changes last second.

Feldman explained, via On3’s Justin Rudolph, that there will be a hefty price tag that comes with gaining Ward’s services.

“The quarterback market is crazy right now,” Feldman said. “… [He] started his career at a small school, Incarnate Word, in [San Antonio], Texas. [He] put up huge numbers, followed his offense coordinator to Pullman, and put up really good numbers in the Pac-12. Some of the things we’re hearing is, if you want to be in the Cam Ward market, you may have to pay $1.5 million.”

As Feldman noted, Ward spent two seasons on The Palouse after transferring in from Division II’s Incarnate Word. He started 25 games for the Cougars where he passed for more than 6,400 yards and 43 touchdowns while adding 11 more scores on the ground.

“He’s a guy who could go to the NFL, but I don’t think he would be one of those top guys right now. I mean, he’s got good size, can extend plays, and got a quick release, but he’s been a little inconsistent,” Feldman continued. “But he also doesn’t have the talent around him; some of these other guys who are on the top of the draft probably do.”
