Florida Atlantic quarterback Casey Thompson plans to the transfer portal, a source confirms to On3 with plans to play his seventh year of college eligibility elsewhere.

The former Texas and Nebraska quarterback was granted a medical hardship waiver earlier this month.  As a result, he was given another year of eligibility — his seventh season. Thompson was in his first year with FAU and played three games with the Owls before suffering a season-ending torn ACL.

Former Longhorns coach Tom Herman landed the quarterback this last offseason, when Thompson had left Nebraska and entered the portal. He spent four years in Austin — taking a redshirt year as a true freshman — and totaled 2,422 passing yards and 30 touchdowns during his time with the Longhorns. He then transferred to Nebraska in 2022, being named the Cornhuskers’ starting quarterback and playing in 10 games and throwing for 2,407 yards.

In the three games before his injury this year, Thompson completed 50 of 79 passes for 509 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions for Florida Atlantic. Now he’s back in the transfer portal, ready to find a fourth college.

On3 has confirmed with a source that returning to Nebraska is not an option for Thompson.
