Colorado guard Luke O’Brien enters NCAA transfer portal
Colorado guard Luke O’Brien has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.
O’Brien enters the transfer portal with size and experience, a 6-foot-8 shooting guard who’s appeared in 111 career games for Colorado with 29 starts.
The Colorado native has spent all four seasons of his college career with the Buffaloes, averaging a career-high 6.7 points per game last season along with 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Year after year O’Brien’s point total increased, showing steady improvement as a scorer.
O’Brien led the Buffaloes in rebounding during the 2022-2023 season with a career-high 5.6 boards per game. Ending his career with the Buffaloes as a career 35% three-point shooter 69 total made threes and 538 career points following back-to-back 200+ point seasons.
He scored a career-high 18 points this past season versus Utah Tech, one of his 10 double-digit scoring games of the year including 12 point performance in Colorado’s first-round NCAA Tournament win over Florida where he shot 100% from the field.

O’Brien played high school hoops at Columbine High School in Littleton (CO) where he was an unrated, unranked prospect in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. But one major recruiting company rated him as a three-star prospect and a top-five player in the state of Colorado. Receiving in-state offers from Air Force and Denver as well out of high school.

Colorado transfer portal activity
O’Brien joins center Eddie Lampkin and guard J’Vonne Hadley in the transfer portal this offseason for the Buffaloes, both representing major losses for Colorado as experienced, upperclassmen starters.
Lampkin led Colorado in rebounding last year with 7.0 rebounds per game, also notching career-highs in scoring and assists with 10.6 points and 2.2 assists per game in his lone senior season with Colorado after transferring in from TCU. He was Colorado’s fifth-leading scorer last season, with Hadley sitting right in front of him averaging 11.6 points per game.
Hadley joined the Buffaloes following one season at Northeastern, starting in 55 total games in his Colorado career averaging 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in his Buffs career as an impactful guard on both ends of the floor.
