Oklahoma lands commitment from Purdue WR Deion Burks
Purdue transfer wide receiver Deion Burks has committed to Oklahoma, he announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Sooners and Texas were long thought to be favorites in his recruitment. Burks has 804 career receiving yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons with the Boilermakers.
While he could have entered the NFL draft, Miami, USC, Auburn, Utah, Washington and Oregon all expressed interest and offered scholarships. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound redshirt sophomore was one of the most sought-after wideouts in the portal. The Belleville, Michigan, native finished this past season with 47 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns.
It’s a solid pickup for the Sooners, who will start the Jackson Arnold Era on Dec. 28 in the Alamo Bowl. A former five-star recruit, he’ll be the expected starter in 2024. Having a veteran wideout in Deion Burks only adds to the talent around Arnold.
Oklahoma’s wide receivers corps will be filled with experience as it enters the SEC. Along with Burks, Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, Andrel Anthony and Jayden Gibson will all be options in the passing game.
