Delaware transfer John Camden narrows list to final six schools

Delaware transfer forward John Camden has narrowed his list down to six schools competing for his services, On3 has learned. He’s choosing between Purdue, Mississippi State, SMU, California, Oklahoma State, and Grand Canyon.
Whichever school wins the recruiting battle will be the fourth program Camden has suited up for in his collegiate career. Previously he’s played for Memphis, Virginia Tech and the aforementioned Blue Hens.
With the Tigers and the Hokies, Camden didn’t see much playing time. Then, he truly broke out when given a shot with Delaware. Camden averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Blue Hens over the course of the 2024-25 season, appearing in 36 games last season. He appeared in 38 total in the three years prior.
Whichever team ends up swaying Camden is hoping more of the same is in store for the soon-to-be former Delaware star. He proved himself inside the Colonial Athletic Association Conference, and now he’ll be looking to get the job done on an even grander stage next season.
John Camden did not have a star-rating as a recruit out of Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, NH), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. However, 247 Sports and ESPN both ranked him as a three-star in the Class of 2021.

More on John Camden, NCAA Transfer Portal
The college basketball transfer portal officially opened for business on Monday, March 24, and will close 30 days later on Tuesday, April 22. As of this writing, more than 1,000 players had already entered their names.
Last spring alone, 1,962 Division I players tested the portal waters. Based on the early numbers from this year, even more could follow. For the first time in history, more than half of the points scored in college basketball were scored by players from the transfer portal, not high school, in the 2024-25 season.
In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
