In the fallout of losing former Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch to the Washington Huskies, Arizona has had a mass exodus of players leaving their roster, as you might imagine. On Wednesday evening, quarterback Demond Williams Jr. entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He was one of the most decorated signal-callers in the nation. In the 2024 cycle, Williams was rated as the No. 16 quarterback prospect in the country and a four-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

The Arizona Wildcats had one of the most successful seasons in school history this year, finishing with a No. 11 ranking in the polls. It was their highest ranking in the AP Poll since 1998. A big part of their special season was the dynamic tandem of quarterback Noah Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, both of which have recently hit the portal after Fisch’s departure.

Williams put on an impressive performance at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where he shined among the top high school football prospects in the nation. He spun a beautiful spiral during the game, tossing a couple of nice touchdown passes. Williams also had a number of nice runs, finishing with three total touchdowns. He impressed On3’s Charles Power during practices during the week as well.

Demond Williams Jr. impresses at All-American Bowl

Demond Williams Jr. was the top quarterback for the East squad during both days. At 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, there’s no doubt Williams is undersized at the position. With that said, he showed good accuracy to all levels. Williams has spun the ball well, throwing a well-placed, catchable ball. That jives with what we’ve seen on Friday nights, as Williams completed 76.8% of his passes as a senior. He flashed his notable scrambling ability during the joint practice, keeping his eyes downfield while avoiding the pass rush and finding receivers open downfield.

When he chose Arizona, he originally decommitted from the Ole Miss Rebels on July 31, 2023. A dynamic dual-threat, Williams led Basha High School (Chandler, Arizona) to back-to-back state championships and was named Arizona Player of the Year in his division. In 13 games last year, he completed 68% of his passes for 2,339 yards and 23 touchdowns, while tossing just one interception. As a runner, he ran for 746 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Throughout his highly decorated career, Williams threw for over 10,000 passing yards and 93 total touchdowns. On the ground, he finished with 42 total touchdowns.
