DePaul guard Caleb Murphy enters NCAA transfer portal
DePaul guard Caleb Murphy has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.
Murphy was previously a highly-touted high school recruit, spending the first two seasons of his college career at South Florida. With the Bulls, Murphy played in 52 games and made 49 starts, averaging 11.4 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore, which are all career highs.
At USF Murphy scored in double figures in over 30 games, highlighted by a career 20 points against Memphis in his true freshman season. Making the AAC All-Freshman Team and earning AAC Freshman of the Week honors twice during the 2020-2021 season. As a sophomore, he started and appeared in all 31 games and averaged a team high 31.8 minutes per game, also leading the team in scoring and assists per game.
Following his two years in Tampa, Murphy transferred to DePaul, but not see the court as much in his career with the Blue Demons due to injury, playing in 23 games with eight starts.
Murphy missed the first 18 games of his junior season with a wrist injury and appeared in just eight games last season before being sidelined yet again with an injured wrist. Granted a medical redshirt so he can finish his college career healthy and strong, which he will look to do with another program next season.

In his limited action with DePaul, Murphy averaged 20.5 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. And the Blue Demons could have surely used him more last season after finishing the season with a disappointing 3-29 record, losing all 20 of their Big East Conference games.
Murphy played high school basketball at Grayson High School in Loganville (GA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 80 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
