Former Emporia State wide receiver Jaylen Varner has committed to Minnesota, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Varner began his career at Missouri as a defensive back. However, Varner elected to transfer to Div. II program Emporia State in 2020. Unfortunately, Emporia State did not have a season that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nonetheless, when Varner finally got his chance to play, he made the most of it. In 2021, Varner tallied 39 passes for 428 yards and four scores. The following season, Varner improved, amassing 48 receptions for 541 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.

Finally, Varner highlighted his Div. II career with a stunning 2023 campaign. This past season, Varner exploded for 90 receptions, 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named a  first team All-MIAA member.

Jaylen Varner played high school football at Marshall (MO), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
