Duke safety Brandon Johnson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. After spending the past three seasons in Durham, Johnson will be looking to close out his college career elsewhere.

Johnson was a multi-year starter at Duke, playing the nickel position. He recorded 56 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, and four pass breakups during the 2023 season. While his play was not enough to land him on an All-ACC team, he did earn honorable mentions from the conference.

The Blue Devils have been in the middle of the coaching carousel this offseason, with Mike Elko leaving in favor of the Texas A&M job. Duke wound up hiring Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, giving him the chance to run another ACC program.

At the very least, Johnson is testing the waters to see what is out there. Experienced players in the secondary can be rare in the transfer portal and there could be plenty of suitors.

Johnson played high school football at Newton (NC) Newton-Conover, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,279 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
