Duke guard Jeremy Roach plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, declares for 2024 NBA Draft
Duke guard Jeremy Roach plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft. Roach has spent all four seasons of his collegiate career with the Blue Devils.
This past season, Roach was voted team captain for the second straight year and played in 35 of Duke’s 36 games. He averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc.
In his four seasons with the Blue Devils, Roach amassed 1,469 points, 314 rebounds and 402 assists. The 6-foot-2 senior owns a career 1.74 assist-turnover ratio, including a 1.95 mark as a sophomore in helping guide Duke to the Final Four.
While at Duke, Roach has boosted the program to an ACC regular season title and Final Four in 2022 and an ACC Tournament title in 2023. Duke fell in the Elite Eight this past season to NC State. In the loss, Roach recorded 13 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Jeremy Roach played high school basketball at Paul VI Catholic (VA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 22 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Roach’s decision to enter the transfer portal seemingly wasn’t due to any issues with head coach Jon Scheyer. After Duke’s season-ending loss to NC State, Roach had nothing but good things to say about the third-year head coach.

“People don’t know how hard his job is,” Roach said. “People don’t know how hard his job is that you are taking over after the GOAT. That’s not easy work. Just give credit to him. He is always instilling confidence in us every day.
“Whether we’re messing up or not, he just always has that strong face. A lot of people would have folded in this situation. All the criticism that people say, I mean, it’s unacceptable. There’s no reason for that. If somebody wanted to, try doing his job and see how easy it is. So I give credit to Coach Scheyer. I love him.”
Roach is the fourth Duke player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining Christian Reeves, Mark Mitchell and Jaylen Blakes. Despite its losses, Duke will have no shortage of talent on next season’s roster.
The Blue Devils boast the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle. The group includes three five-star and three four-star recruits, headlined by No. 1 overall prospect Cooper Flagg.
