Ex-NC State QB Devin Leary's visit to Kentucky 'went very well,' insider says
Former NC State quarterback Devin Leary basically has his pick of the litter when it comes to transfer destinations. But the star quarterback just took a visit to Kentucky and it reportedly went very well, according to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones.
“Hearing the visit by QB Devin Leary went very well,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “I think the UK folks feel VERY good about their chances of landing the top QB in the portal.”
Leary finished the 2022 season with 1,265 yards, 11 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 61.1% completion percentage in a season that was marred by injuries. Last year, he broke out for the Wolfpack over 12 games, putting him on the map as one of the better quarterbacks nationwide.
Leary finished 2021 with 3,433 yards, 35 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 65.7% completion percentage.
As a member of the Class of 2018, Leary was a four-star prospect out of Sicklerville (N.J.) Timber Creek, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 8 overall prospect in the state, the No. 29 quarterback prospect in the class and the No. 348 overall prospect in the class.

Once Leary entered the NCAA transfer portal, he was ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the portal over others like former Virginia signal caller Brennan Armstrong, ex-Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and former Coastal Carolina leader Grayson McCall.
“2022 did not go as expected, but I will never question God’s timing,” Leary wrote announcing his intentions to enter the portal. “I will forever be thankful for the relationships that I have built here at NC State. I want to thank every coach and supporting staff for helping me along my journey to become a better player and man. To my teammates, I will always cherish the brotherhood we shared for the rest of my life. Lastly, thank you WPN for your incredible support over the years. With that being said, after much prayer and consideration, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal for my final year of eligibility.”
Landing Leary would be a huge boost to the Wildcats’ offense under Mark Stoops. Veteran quarterback Will Levis declared for the NFL Draft and could land high in the first round come April.
Leary could end up being the top quarterback in the SEC East, should he come to Kentucky. With outgoing quarterbacks such as Stetson Bennett, Anthony Richardson and Hendon Hooker, Leary might go toe-to-toe with someone like Spencer Rattler for division supremacy.
