Five schools emerge early in recruitment of Miami transfer QB Jacurri Brown
Transferring Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jacurri Brown just entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal and is already receiving a healthy amount of interest from programs across the country. Of those programs, On3’s Steve Wiltfong says that there are five that have shown serious interest in adding the former Hurricanes quarterback.
“Schools that have expressed interest in Jacurri Brown right now have been App[alachian] State, Baylor, Georgia State, Mississippi State and UCF. Others have reached out as well but those look to be the most serious out of the gate,” said Wiltfong.
Although Brown has seen limited time on the field at Miami and just has three stars to his name (with a 1-2 record as a starter), his size and skills at the position make him one of the more intriguing quarterbacks and the spring transfer window.

The sophomore quarterback is a sturdy 6-foot-4, weighing in at 220 lbs. Brown has some serious athleticism, which he has displayed throughout both his high school and collegiate career in his dual-threat ability. He also possesses an arm that can make nearly every pass on the field.

Brown is likely receiving additional attention elsewhere, but these five institutions are likely in dire need of quarterback stability. Both Baylor of the Big 12 and Mississippi State of the SEC lost their quarterbacks to the transfer portal earlier this offseason. The Bulldogs’ former star quarterback, Will Rogers, left the program and joined the Washington Huskies. At the same time, former Bears’ starter Blake Shapen is one of the quarterbacks Mississippi State brought in to potentially replace Rogers.
Brown was a four-star prospect out of Lowndes High School in Valdosta (Ga.). For the 2022 recruiting cycle, he was ranked the No. 308 overall player and No. 18 quarterback in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He was a highly-touted high school recruit regarded as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation. He was also selected as a finalist at the Elite 11 quarterback competition in 2022. He enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining in his college career.

As it currently stands, Brown has yet to set visits with any schools, much less commit to playing anywhere in 2024. However, given the early interests from these schools and a few others, the former Miami quarterback will likely have a choice of where to suit up and play next season while in contention for the starting quarterback spot.
