Arizona transfer quarterback Jayden de Laura commits to Texas State
Former Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura committed to Texas State on Monday after entering the NCAA transfer portal earlier this offseason.
de Laura spent the first two seasons of his college career at Washington State. He was redshirted in his first year with the Cougars, but started in all four games of the shortened 2020 season. In those four games de Laura threw for 886 yards and five touchdowns, also rushing for two touchdowns. But he’d take his game to another level in 2021.
In year two at Washington State de Laura was named Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year after throwing for 2,798 yards and 23 touchdowns along with three rushing scores in his 11 starts. He helped lead the Cougars to their first winning season in three years, but then transferred to Arizona ahead of the 2022 season.
He started all 12 games in his first season with the Wildcats, throwing for 3,685 yards and 25 touchdowns which rank third and sixth all time for a single season in Arizona’s school history. He started the first four games of the 2023 season for the Wildcats before suffering an injury against Stanford that allowed Noah Fifita to play and eventually take over the starting job for the remainder of the season.
de Laura still threw for 1,120 yards and scored eight total touchdowns after appearing in seven games with four starts last season for Arizona. He joins Texas State to close out his collegiate career, joining the Bobcats ranking 13th in Arizona program history in passing yards and tied for 10th in program history in career touchdown passes.
Jayden de Laura played high school football at St. Louis High School in Honolulu (HI) where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 539 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
