Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord is reportedly expected to commit to Syracuse out of the transfer portal, according to Syracuse.com’s Brent Axe, in what would be a major win for new head coach Fran Brown. McCord was a five-star recruit and Top 25 prospect in the 2021 signing class.

McCord was originally anticipated to commit to Nebraska after visiting there, but he moved off the Huskers after a recent visit. He visited Syracuse shortly after, spurring his decision to apparently commit.

After spending his first two years of college mostly behind CJ Stroud — he appeared in five games in 2021 and seven in 2022 — McCord earned the starting job in 2023 after a camp battle with Devin Brown. McCord was good for the Buckeyes, but didn’t deliver the high-octane passing attack of recent teams. He finished the 2023 regular season completing 66.5% of his passes for 3170 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

McCord played high school football at St. Joseph’s (Pa.) Preparatory School, where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 25 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
