Former TCU defensive back Javeon Wilcox will transfer to play for Texas Tech, he announced Sunday evening via Instagram story. Wilcox was a true freshman this past season and still has four years of eligibility remaining.

Wilcox did not appear in any games in 2023 as he took a redshirt. As a recruit, he was a three-star prospect out of Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas. He ranked as the No. 455 overall player and the No. 46 linebacker in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

In his senior year of high school, Wilcox totaled 125 tackles, including two for loss. He also added three interceptions, two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Wilcox was a multi-sport athlete, also playing basketball and running track.

Javeon Wilcox ranks as the No. 982 overall player according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He joins a Red Raiders defense in need of a boost after finishing sixth in the Big 12 in against the pass in 2023.
