Former Tennessee CB Warren Burrell commits to Georgia Tech out of the transfer portal
A former Volunteer is heading to Atlanta out of the transfer portal.
After entering the portal at the opening of the window, Warren Burrell, a former cornerback for Tennessee, has announced his commitment to play for Georgia Tech next season.
In his five seasons on Rocky Top, Burrell finished with 91 tackles, nine pass deflections, and one interceptions. However, while his one pick came this season as a redshirt senior, he didn’t as much action this fall as he did back in 2021 due to a season-ending upper body injury in 2022.
Burrell played high school football at North Gwinnett (GA) where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 556 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished just outside the Top-50 as far as corners in his class as well as two spots outside the Top-60 when it came to players out of Georgia.
In Brent Key’s first full season, Georgia Tech finished outside the Top-100 on defense but was better in coverage for the pass as they gave up just 212.5 yards per game. Now, with the addition of Burrell, Andrew Thacker’s unit has an experienced player to work with on the outside.
