After entering the transfer portal a second time, former Virginia Tech cornerback Derrick Canteen has committed to Cincinnati.

Canteen will be closing out his college career with the Bearcats after starting it at Georgia Southern, where he spent four seasons before transferring to Virginia Tech ahead of the 2023 season.

For the Eagles, Canteen earned First-Team All-Sun Belt honors and landed on the Freshman All-American Team for the Football Writers Association of America and The Athletic following his redshirt freshman season in 2020 when he recorded 10 pass breakups and an FBS leading six interceptions.

He ended his Georgia Southern career with 117 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and seven interceptions before transferring to Virginia Tech in 2023. In his lone season with the Hokies Canteen made three starts in his 13 game appearances with 43 tackles, five bass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble.

Canteen played high school football at Evans (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2,653 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
