Coastal Carolina transfer quarterback Grayson McCall is expected to commit to NC State, a source tells On3.

A three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year, the grad transfer has one year of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately for the Wolfpack. McCall took visits to Raleigh and UCF this past weekend, ultimately deciding on NC State.

Talking with a source familiar with the situation, a few factors made a difference in the decision. The all-time passing touchdown leader in Coastal Carolina history likes how he fits in the NC State scheme. He’s also from Indian Trail, North Carolina, which is outside of Charlotte. Being able to play his final college football season in North Carolina played was taken into consideration.

McCall is also excited about the talent that will surround him. True freshman wide receiver Kevin Concepcion led the Wolfpack in receiving yards this season, finishing with 64 catches for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dave Doeren’s program is also expected to land another weapon or two for McCall in the portal.

McCall has thrown for more than 10,000 yards in his career, tossing 88 touchdowns with only 14 interceptions. He’s rushed for 18 touchdowns, too. He dealt with an injury for most of this season, however, playing in just seven games. The former three-star recruit has a career completion percentage of 69.9%.

What he brings to the Wolfpack, however, is experience. He’s started 40 games in his career and touts a 33−7 record. NC State opens its 2024 season against West Carolina before facing Tennessee in Charlotte on Sept. 7.
