The Houston Cougars men’s basketball team lost a tough one to Duke to get bounced out of this year’s NCAA championship tournament. Unfortunately for the Cougars and head coach Kelvin Sampson, they’ve taken another hit before the college basketball offseason starts. On3 has learned that the Cougars veteran guard Damian Dunn has put his name into the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday.

You can watch the tournament live on Prime Video, add on your favorite channels and watch at home or on your phone and laptop at work!

Dunn transferred to Houston in the offseason after spending the first four years of college at Temple inside of the Owls men’s basketball program. He made the jump from Temple to Houston with 72 collegiate games under his belt, 58 starts, and averaged just over 30 minutes of court time per contest.

In terms of his career numbers as an Owl, Dunn averaged 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 cysts, and 0.7 steals per contest while putting up respectable numbers in terms of shooting percentage. If there was one opportunity in Dunn’s game that he was looking to patch up joining the Cougars’, it would be in the turnover department. At Temple, he averaged 2.8 turnovers per contest, giving him a net negative assist-to-turnover ratio.

At Houston, Dunn played in all 37 games and recorded four starts, averaging 17.6 minutes on the court. He finished the year with 6.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals a game.

What will likely go down as Dunn’s last game in a Houston uniform is something that the guard would like to forget. The six-foot-five combo guard was unable to make the most of his opportunity in the Sweet 16 round of the men’s championship tournament despite the Cougars losing star Jamal Shead in the first half. Dunn was on the floor for 14 minutes and went 0-4 from the field with one assist and two personal fouls. However, he did not leave the game scoreless, as he did connect on both of his Free throw attempts against the Blue Devils.
