Iowa transfer guard Tony Perkins hearing from extensive list of suitors since entering portal
Iowa guard Tony Perkins recently decided to enter the transfer portal to see what kind of options he’d have across the college basketball landscape. Well, in less than 24 hours since hitting the portal, Perkins has heard from an extensive list of schools, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. He’s heard from the likes of Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Virginia, Virginia Tech, UCLA, and many others.
It’s looking like he’s one of the hotter commodities in the portal thus far. He was recently listed in the top ten of the prospects that hit the portal on Tuesday, coming in at No. 6 for On3’s Jamie Shaw.
This past season, Perkins played and started in all 34 of Iowa’s games. He averaged a career-best 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 43.2% from the field and 29.9% from beyond the arc.
Tony Perkins played high school basketball at Lawrence North (IN), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 203 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. As a senior there, he averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He helped lead Lawrence North to a 25-2 overall record.
As a junior in high school, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and three assists per game, while shooting 38 percent from beyond-the-arc.

He is the second Iowa player to enter the transfer portal, joining Dasonte Bowen. Iowa finished this season with a 9-15 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference play, tied for sixth in the Big Ten.
Iowa’s season came to an end in the second round of the NIT. In the loss, Perkins recorded three points, four rebounds and three assists while shooting 1-5 from the floor. In four seasons at Iowa, Perkins averaged 9.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
