Jahmir Young, one of the portal's top PGs; is starting to set visits
The instant Jahmir Young entered the college basketball transfer portal, he was one of the top point guards on the market. The caliber of programs that have reached out to the 6-foot-2 junior is a who’s who from NCAA tournament play.
Young has played all three of his college seasons at Charlotte. He was awarded first-team All-Conference USA in each of the past two seasons after being named Conference USA Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season. He finished 3rd in the conference in scoring (19.6) last season. Young led Charlotte in points, assists (3.7), steals (1.1), and three-pointers (1.8) per game. He finished second on the team in rebounds (5.9) per game.
On3 caught up with Jahmir Young to see which schools had been in contact and who he was moving forward with in the process.
“I have heard from Notre Dame, Purdue, Gonzaga, Kansas State, Villanova, Duke, Minnesota, Iona, Maryland, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Georgetown, George Mason, UConn, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, BYU, DePaul, and Kansas,” Young said.
Young graduated from Hyattsville (MD) Dematha Catholic. He claimed over 15 offers coming out of high school, including La Salle, Old Dominion, Mount St. Mary’s, James Madison, Coppin State, UNC Greensboro, Loyola-Maryland, Northeastern, Siena, Hofstra, and others. The second time around, Young knows what the is looking for in a program.

In Young’s words
“Play-style, player development, culture, and relationship will all play a part in my process,” Young said. “But I want to win, winning is big for me.”
While a lot of information has been coming at him, Young has taken his time going through the process. He is taking Zoom calls with his mom and is in the process of setting up visits.
“I’m cutting my list down slowly,” Young said. “I have set a visit with Miami for next week. I’ve had Zooms with South Carolina, Wake Forest, and Kansas State so far. Wake Forest will get an official visit too.”
This will be Young’s first time transferring. The point guard should have one year of eligibility remaining with the option of a COVID year.
