East Carolina has emerged as the frontrunner to land Missouri transfer quarterback Jake Garcia, a source tells On3.

A four-star prospect and top-60 recruit in the 2021 cycle, the quarterback started his college career off at Miami before transferring to the Tigers in the SEC last offseason. With the Hurricanes he played in one game as a freshman before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. In 2022, he was the backup quarterback to Tyler Van Dyke. During his time at Miami, he started one game and threw for 959 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Garcia did not see playing time this season at Missouri, losing the quarterback battle to Brady Cook. The Tigers finished the year 11-2 with a win in the Cotton Bowl.

East Carolina has already taken a quarterback this transfer portal cycle in Michigan State transfer Katin Houser. Garcia and Houser would likely compete for the starting job this spring.
