Joel Klatt reveals his Top 3 transfer portal QBs, potential landing spots
There are plenty of top notch players in the transfer portal this cycle, but it’s a particularly rich quarterback class. And Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt can think of three that he’d readily take above the rest of the available signal callers.
For a pair of them, he even offered potential destinations that he sees as good fits. Klatt’s top trio of transfer quarterbacks — Cameron Ward, Dillon Gabriel and Kyle McCord — rank as the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 7 quarterbacks in the On3 Transfer Portal Player rankings.
“Wild transfer portal season upon us and a lot of quarterbacks in there. Quarterback movement is crazy,” Klatt said in a video shared on social media.
For Ward, Klatt identified Ohio State, McCord’s now former team, as a potential landing spot that fits well. Ward has flashed high-level arm talent and playmaking ability at times, and playing with the array of offensive talent in Columbus, schemed up by Ryan Day, could be a perfect marriage.
“I think the best available guys, guys that haven’t committed anywhere, would be: Cam Ward. Cam Ward’s a sensational player. He’s going to be coveted, there’s no doubt. I think he would fit really well at Ohio State,” Klatt said.

Klatt highlighted Oregon as a great landing spot for Gabriel, who could take the reins from Bo Nix as the offensive point guard in Eugene.
“Dillon Gabriel is out there. He’s one of my top transfer guys. I could see him fitting at a place like Oregon. We’ll see where he ends up committing, but that’s an offense that is a point guard offense and that’s certainly what he does well,” Klatt said.
When it came to McCord, Klatt didn’t have a destination singled out, although Nebraska has emerged as a potential player for the former five-star recruit who went 11-1 in his season starting at Ohio State. McCord’s pathway to start also got even clearer with Jeff Sims hopping in the portal from Lincoln already.
“And then I’ll jump on the Kyle McCord bandwagon. I think Kyle McCord is a really good player. I mean the guy lost one game by six points at the No. 1 team in the country. I know he made a mistake in that game, but he doesn’t turn the football over, he’s a former five-star guy and a heck of player. So those are my top three transfer quarterbacks right now,” Klatt said.
