Oregon State guard Jordan Pope, center Chol Marial enter NCAA transfer portal

Oregon State guard Jordan Pope and center Chol Marial have entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Pope was a crucial piece for the Beavers this season.

Pope led the charge for Oregon State this year, averaging a team-high 17.1 points and 3.4 assists. He also shot 45.1% from the floor, including 37.1% from three-point distance, as the Beavers went 13-19 overall this year. It was a solid leap from a freshman season in which he averaged 12.6 points.

Pope played high school basketball at Prolific Prep (Calif.), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 190 overall player from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Marial, meanwhile, started his career at Maryland before arriving in Corvallis in 2022. The 7-foot-2 big man appeared in 31 games this year, including nine starts, as he averaged 2.3 points and 2.4 rebounds as a fifth-year senior.

Marial was a three-star recruit during the 2019 cycle and the nation’s No. 131 overall player, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Pope and Marial are the latest Oregon State players to hit the portal Wednesday. Forward Tyler Bilodeau also hit the open market earlier in the day.

In 32 games las season, Bilodeau was highly productive. He finished with 14.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, shot 53.3% from the floor and 34.5% from three-point range.

Oregon State struggled mightily this past season, finishing 13-19 overall and 5-15 in Pac-12 play for the second straight year. It’s been a rough go for the Beavers since a run to the Elite Eight in 2022, amassing a 27-68 record in the years since.

The portal losses also add to the changes the program will under go in 2024-25. After the Pac-12 split up in a groundbreaking round of conference realignment, Oregon State and Washington State announced their plans to join the West Coast Conference in all sports besides football and baseball. That means the two schools played their last Pac-12 games this season.
