South Carolina transfer RB Mario Anderson announces top three portal destinations
South Carolina transfer running back Mario Anderson tells On3 he is down to three schools in his recruitment.
After four seasons at Newberry in Division II, he transferred to South Carolina this past offseason. In his lone season with the Gamecocks, he ran for 707 yards and three touchdowns on 143 carries as the team’s lead back.
He entered the transfer portal on Friday. Over the weekend, he was contacted by several schools. But now he’s down to his top three schools: Memphis, Oklahoma and USC.
With a rich tradition of the running back position at each school, Anderson said he can envision himself with every program. Former Oklahoma star turned Sooners running backs coach DeMarco Murray called Anderson on Friday, shortly after he entered the portal. With a crop of young backs on the roster, the South Carolina transfer could be a veteran leader in the room.
The Trojans have been looking to add a tailback, too, losing MarShawn Lloyd to the draft and Raleek Brown entered the transfer portal. Mario Anderson would be a much-needed pickup at the position for Lincoln Riley’s offense. Memphis is another option closer to home for the Goose Creek, South Carolina, product.
