Maliq Carr, a tight end that just finished his fourth collegiate campaign, committed to Houston out of the transfer portal on Monday.

Carr shared his announcement for the Cougars with a graphic on Twitter earlier today.

Carr started his career back at Purdue in 2020. He has since spent the past three seasons in East Lansing at Michigan State. Now, after four years in the Big Ten, Carr is heading to the Big 12.

Over his career, Carr has caught 55 passes for 711 yards and five touchdown. Most of that production has come over his 34 appearances, including seven starts, as a Spartan.

That included this past season where he essentially doubled his numbers from the three previous years combined with career-highs of 30 catches for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers had him finish second in receptions and yards on the team this year and tied for first in receiving touchdowns.

Carr played high school football at Oak Park (MI) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 176 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Carr finished as a Top-40 WR before transitioning to tight end in college. He was also the No. 5 player out of the state of Michigan in his class.

Carr is the 12th transfer addition for Houston so far this offseason. He is the fourth offensive commitment out of the portal for the program heading into their first season under Willie Fritz next fall.
